Neighbours (1) - Knock on door yesterday affie (just prior to The Tea Interval ), son of neighbour at right angles to my garden, on the lawn were a stepladder and a bag of tools .
Asked if he could finish fixing a new roof onto The Chicken House .
I asked, What chicken house ?!?!? Are you having chickens ?? He replied that they already had them - - but the recent heavy rain bashing on the roof was frightening the birds so a more rain-friendly roof needed to be affixed.
Roof duly fixed and off he sauntered . I haven't heard a single cluck or crow but can sense a business opportunity here .......
Just need to get a couple of pigs.

Neighbours (2) - new neighbours here in The Gulag and they are owned by a black cat . My next-door informs me that the cat is Spanish . It's done its time in quarantine and is now free to integrate into British society.
El gato is chock full of personality (actually I reckon it's a dog - el perro). It meets and greets, cooks its own paella and wears very tight sequin gold trousers. They reckon it's no trouble once you get used to the accent.
His name is Manuel and we shall see ........

Nice of him to come and see you Placi. But chickens can encourage rats. And the cockerel can be a bit noisy if they got one.

It's true, Willpar, I wondered about rats . Maybe Manuel, the aspiring bullfighter gato, can sort 'em out.

What insight, Jacksparrow, it couldn't have been just a lucky guess. Yeeeees, Manuel is from Barcelona. Maybe he's hoping to be a footballer too. I hope so 'cos the constant shouts of 'ole', dragging his jewel-encrusted cape and waggling his muleta at everyone is really getting to us.

For the first time, yesterday I was up close and personal with Manuel (they're all like that ). Somewhat over-friendly for my taste (they're all like that ).
Moving on ..... the new neighbours were telling me that he didn't need to be quarantined 'cos he has his very own passport and all the relevant paperwork so he just sailed through Customs.
It transpires that his real name is ..... wait for it - "Blackie" ('cos he is). What a letdown !! I ignored this deflating news and continued to call him Manuel whilst we chatted and they gave me his background. Turns out he wasn't a stray, he was residing with some friends they lived next door to in Spain and they sort of took him over and couldn't bear to be parted from him (they're all like that ) when they moved back to the UK.

I didn't say anything but suspect the UN will be called in when Manuel collides with the Siamese up the road
The laugh is, when we parted they were calling him Manuel too.
Peace on earth ........

My next door but one's moggy spends a great deal of time in my garden overnight. The hogs don't seem bothered and completely ignore her. The purpose of the many visits seems to be to check the spraying sites to check for like minded individuals. For the record there was only one other cat visitor,a ginger one.

As if things weren't bad enuf ........
I learned today that Manuel (see above, and above, and above) is no more. Following a short illness he has departed to pastures new . Thing is, being a Spanish street cat, nobody actually knew how old he was.
Aaaanyway, requiescat in pace, Manuel.

Today I face-to-faced with a new resident . A black and white cat who has come to live two doors up and shows every ominous sign of being an inveterate birder.
Scary stick ready - he'll learn (maybe).

I have to admire the one out,one in policy of your living quarters. Seeing as there is no sport(I didn't use that word OK) to distract your attention perhaps will provide the opportunity to give the new arrival a more intense training
