CHRISTMAS ODE

Post by Jacksparrow »

`Twas the week afore Christmas as Santa prepared his sleigh,
Reindeers in their stable munching contentedly on the hay,
Far to the south in the rain swept UK, Garden Wildlifers
Prepare their homes for the big holiday,

Baking Mince pies, steaming pud, icing fruit cakes looking good,
Meanwhile outside in gardens bleak our wildlife gather their food to seek,
We top up feeders and do our bit but it leaves no time to write of it.
The forum is like the Marie Celeste and I've seen more life in an old tramps vest,
But Merry Christmas anyway and all the best.

In view of my heretoaforementioned comments I feel it shamefacedly incumbent upon moi to join in the cap'n's Crimbo Odey thing and to that end here is a small Japanese haiku (5-7-5 syllables, no rhyming) on the same subject:

Angels and reindeer -
Strange bedfellows, you may think,
But it IS Christmas.

Angels and Reindeer in a bed,
I've never seen or heard that said
That really would be a big surprise
Definitely not fit for children's eyes

Deeply impressed. Like
bootprints in the snow caused by
Santa's big wellies.

I'm dreaming of a hot Christmas,
Just like the ones in dear old Aus
Where the Kookaburras listen and the wavelets glisten,
When adults drink ice cold beer because,
May your Barbie burn hotly and white,
And may all your steaks cook to just about right
