Driving along an Island back lane yesterday I picked up a hitchhiker - I thought it was a catkin at first until brain said it's July so unlikely to be a hazel catkin. AH! - caterpillar - drove the short distance home carefully so as not to dislodge it off the windscreen. I was expecting a Brown-tail or something similar but was delighted to find a Four-spotted Footman. Released into the garden where it should hopefully find plenty to feed up on.


Then on the evening walk there were Stonechat flitting about - I think this is a fledgling rather than a female and in a very exciting first (for me) I encountered Reed Warblers, so close I could have touched it. There were 3 or 4 in the reed bed and far too confiding to be adults.
