Portland Bill 07/11/2025-the full morning

Post by PimperneBloke »

After not managing to get out for what seemed like forever, a foray into the windy wilds was just what was required, and it resulted in a belter of a morning, with far too many pictures taken. A surprise or 3, and a first ever sighting, oh what a lovely time I had, despite the constant wind, several showers and some iffy and changeable light!

I hope you enjoy

:wow: great set PB. I have never seen a redstart in the UK, nice finds and photo's.

I think the meadow pipets are all rock, I checked with merlin as well.

Thanks Snappy :D
I'm never sure with the little beggars Snappy, I was basing it on length of hind claw when I saw them, as Meadow is stupidly long, and some of these were too lol
I'm not convinced the "female black redstart" is one, it may be a not-black Redstart (from the waggie onwards was at Ferrybridge, not the Bill, so a few miles away but I only thought of that when I woke up this morning, will need to check image against book.)

Oh wow and the master excels himself once again
Taking marks off though for your mismeasurement of the length of hind claw PB!!! Its toatie compared to mipit. Your last redstart has the unmistakable tail colouring of one so a would run with it

Just shows you that a calm bright day is not always needed for a fab day birding. And to watch all the bop's and gannets a think a would still be there

Thanks for sorting and sharing your far pics PB...your grounded now til after Xmas

Aww fanks Linda :) Got today and tomorrow off, so I'm heading down to Studland in a minute.. you've been warned lol
The 2nd Redstart, I wasn't sure if it was a Redstart, or a Black Redstart... I'm now pretty confidant it's a Black one :D
Toatie? Is that a word? Even in Scottish? I'll see if I can find the long clawed pic :P :haha:

 You learn something.... "Toatie," or "toaty" and "totie," is a Scottish word means "tiny" or "small". It is used to describe something very small, such as in the phrase "a totie tattie" which means "a tiny potato".
