I turned the corner of a field at the weekend to come face to face with this lovely roe buck, not sure which of us was more surprised. It did prompt me to take the day off today to go see how it's larger cousins are going on up on the moors... see if they have shed the velvet yet.

A roebuck this morning. Shame about the long grass blur across the face but hey ho. I tried to change positions but he was off barking. 10 minutes later and further on I looked back and he'd come back but in the harvested field next door.... typical.
