.....and so it came to pass that that in the year of our Lord 2016 yet another UK political party's leadership has gone to the female gender with another in the pending tray. I have heard it said quite frequently in the past that the world would be a different place if women were in charge and it seems we are about to put that particular theory to the test.
On a personal basis I'm quite happy to go with the flow.Women politicians are far from being a new phenomena and we had a female PM as long ago as 1979. We are in interesting times and it's about to get more interestinger.

Easy for me to say because I don't carry the gender baggage to which all men are subject so let us begin:
MT split the country asunder like no man before or since and everyone of that age still has an opinion on that, whereas prime ministers such as Jim Callaghan or Alec Douglas-Hume came and went without leaving even a discernible ripple on the political pond.
The self-important political media pundits instantly compare TM to MT because it's a facile comment and - so far - no-one can gainsay it; all that such arrogant generalisations deserve is contempt. (These are mostly the same old faces who were certain that Labour would win the 2015 General Election and that the Referendum would result in a resounding "Yes".)
We must wait and see of course but logic dictates that we are about to be royally sold down the river, pour discourager les autres.

Thereby hangs the interesting bit as far as I'm concerned. It is claimed TM received support not only from the"remain" Tories but from some of the Brexiteers too so if we are going to be "sold down the river" it certainly won't be without anyone noticing until it's too late.
Even Mrs JS is taking an interest in the political goings on at present for the first time I can ever remember since we were wed.

Her choice of Minister for Brexit might give us a clue.

However, whoever that might be I'm not 100% convinced that the background civil servants in the brand new Minibrex will be impartial on this one. Sir Humphrey is instinctively for wider still and wider and not for smaller is better.

We have local council elections upcoming in early May and today I received a visit from The First Hopeful (bless ). This lady has a thing about local transport: buses/trains/parking, the usual guff. Regular readers will know that I do not appreciate being disturbed in the miggle of a cricket match so I confess that I brushed aside her opening gambit and reached for the easy target of ..... sssshhh, U-no-wot .
Her face fell and she confided that she had never known local people she had spoken to to be so angry about a single subject. No-one wants to talk about anything other than Brexit. Local affairs have been completely overshadowed by this. I said I was surprised that she was surprised and she should look out for a very low turnout with lots of spoiled ballot papers.
She then said - she was thinking of spoiling her ballot paper too !!!!!
I had to laugh 'cos if you didn't larf you'd cry.

I seldom mention the "B" word nowadays but if it does worm it's way into the conversation one thing is constant regardless of their view of how the politicians in Parliament have chosen to conduct themselves. No-one is happy. The pollies say they understand but I am convinced that once they are ensconced in the Westminster village they are completely oblivious to all that is happening around them.
I'll leave it there as I can sense a full head of steam building up

Where I am it is a con stronghold. The local elections in may look just to have lib/lab/con. So if there are not any other candidates to choose from then I wont be bothered. Never get anyone knocking on doors around here for their party.
