..........I've just realised that when I was briefing you all about the farm was that is totally organic and has been since before that style of farming became trendy. Ivor then continued to outline the events that had brought them all into his office that day. Roughly nine months after Herbie first collapsed it happened again but this time he was at home. Fortunately Mary found him when she came to work and again he was whisked off the the hospital where a second more thorough round of tests were performed. He recovered again quite quickly but when the doctors to a look at his CT scan they detected a shadow in his brain. This turned out to be a tumour in an inoperable place and the prognosis was that he had about twelve months to live. At this point he came to see me to make his will but he also charged me with trying to track down a Miss Lucy Quipment ,now Mrs LeDonion, and if possible any children she might have had about twenty years ago. Ivor continued saying that this had taken some time not least because she had gone to live in New Zealand.
By the time all this had been achieved Herbies time was nearly up. He continued working despite the tumour up until the end finally collapsing one final time out in his beloved dales. "At this sad point it is now my duty to read his will..........."

.........but before I do are there any questions arising from what I have told you thus far? Ivor also asked Andy if he'd read through the documentation he'd been sent and did he understand the implications. Andy said he'd read it but understood very little as his connection with Herbie was something he'd been totally unaware of. "Fair enough" said Ivor "but please bear with me as all will become clearer when I read the will."
After a short break Ivor restarted the reading of the will. He outlined how he intended to proceed . He was going to start with the small bequests moving on to the disposition of the farm. He also advised that there were a few riders which he would explain as they went along.
Firstly Herbie's loyal secretary Mary was left a lump sum of ten thousand pounds plus a years salary if she was no longer required for the running of the farm. Mary seemed a little taken aback at Herbie's generosity as he'd never given any indication that he thought she was ever doing anything more than what she was paid for.
Then it came to Alf Measures............................

.............who had been to all intents and purposes a partner in business to Herbie but nothing was ever registered legally although Alf had sold his farmland to Herbie to settle some debts incurred by his wayward son. Herbie had recognised that Alf being some fifteen years older than himself would very likely be looking to retire shortly so he left him a lump sum of twenty thousand pounds with the added rider that he helped whoever took over the farm settle in and that he looked after the working dogs for the time being. Almost everyone in the room looked in Alf's direction trying to spot any show of emotion but the old fellow appeared completely unmoved which led them to believe that he already aware of what was being said.
Ivor asked Alf if he understood and Alf nodded but said nothing. Ivor then advised them all that he was coming to the main bequest. He then said that to the best of his knowledge Herbie had no other living blood relatives other than Andy and his children so he had left the remainder of his estate to him but added that there were certain riders which had to be adhered to..............
