POTATOES

Post by nuthatch »

He's got ants in his plants - I wondered why OH was watering one of his potato bags with a kettle of boiling water.

There was a nest in the bag with flying ants too - tipped it all out into a wheelbarrow which was a bit difficult as it was all so tightly packed and weighing 30 - 40lbs.

This happened last year but with just a big bag of compost. I suppose ants think they've fallen on their feet finding these bags.

Still have 13 more bags of potatoes - all ok so far.

That's a tricky one, Nuthatch - I read somewhere that putting boiling water on an ants' nest is very beneficial - to the ants !!
Gives them the water they need with no effort at all on their part.
However, dunno how you would go about fixing the problem - the usual chemicals and veggies - hmmmmmmm ....... :(

Oh crumbs, Placi :(

I think the boiling water got a lot of them - the remaining compost is still in the wheelbarrow so will check it over tomorrow.

It was  seeing a wheelbarrow seemingly full of ants, some of them flying up :(

The compost in the wheelbarrow seems ok today - just the odd :ant: when you turn it over.
