Whilst plucking out the baby hawthorn seedlings on the sunny side of the glen I happened upon a 3-spot ladybird, not a harlequin

.
About 10 mins later there was a 2-spot in almost the exact same place. I thought it was the same one but no, a 2-spot. Couldn't find any more.

It should be a good year for LBs. Most of my flora has been plastered in aphids for some time and they are top of the menu.

You'd think so but I posted the above because that's the 1st I've seen since the early May report.
Can't honestly say I've seen a lot of aphids either but haven't been looking especially for them.

Just one of those things ........ spotted a black ladybird with a scarlet spot on either wing (deffy not a harlequin) - went indoors to fetch camera, Life got in the way and when I re-emerged the ladybird had gone. Loooong time since I've seen a black lb.
Note: it had been on the lid of the green recycling bin which I thought was appropriate

A good spot Placi. For me it seems that a LB spot has become a rare occasion.

, made me jump

. Put it out in the garden where it belongs, and after few seconds it flew off

Any idea what sort of LadyBird this is?
