BEWARE OF BT

I haven't been here for over 2 weeks (15 days to be precise). This is because I switched from Sky to BT and the internet cord was cut on Sunday, 15 Oct prior to the engineer coming on Monday, 16th to knit all the stuff together in a seamless fashion so that things would continue as normal and I would hardly have noticed the hiatus. W-R-O-N-G

.
2 dates, no engineers and no internet later I am finally today linked up on the third appointment.
Quite an eye-opener to realise how dependent I am on the internet: groceries, medication, various contacts and stuff to do. Dangerous when you can get no sense and certainly no action from a vital provider of one's lifeline.
I counsel wariness before committing oneself to BT.
But at least now I'll have the Winter Ashes Tour which I suppose will have been worth it in the end

a cautionary tale indeed Placi. I have always been a BT customer but have witnessed the inability to cope with even the slightest problem.
PS I had missed your presence on the forum and assumed it was down to "technical "problems such as those you've had in time gone by. Very pleased to have you back.

Thank you, Jacksparrow, most kind. Very glad to be back.
A propos the comments about BT and rebates - lady rang me this am at 8.00 to ask whether the new system was running correctly (yes thank you) and could she now close the complaint I had made (dunno how many days ago now). I said "no" because that won't solve BT's inherent problem of not talking to each other from department to department. Papering over the cracks doesn't solve anything.
To my amazement she offered me a rebate of £8.something as recompense. I tried to explain that I wasn't angling for money, I hope that they might learn from this if the complaint is left open.
Her response was, "someone higher up will have to ring you, then". Fine, I'll talk to anybody.
I could tell you more but there's little point. Just be careful .......

Good for you, Placi - speak to the man in the cloud - make them squirm - £8!! - they're trying it on
What if you were working from home!
We've always been with TalkTalk - no problems at all ... so far.
Glad you're back

An old friend of mine worked for BT Openreach (and their predecessors) for a good many years and witnessed first hand them losing control of problem solving. In short the problems lies with the planning department and not the operatives who are sent to do the work. Jobs rarely take the time that has been allowed for any number of reasons and appointments have to be cancelled as Placi has discovered to her chagrin.

Back again, though for how long I don't know - broadband just went off on Thursday lunchtime - but now of course I have no tv either not just the computer.
After a surreal number of 'phone calls (at least I could chew the fat with a couple of Dundee engineers !!) I found myself on Saturday evening speaking to a young guy who had been designated as my Case Manager, 'cos BT finally acknowledged that 16 October was rather a long time ago, who promised to email his - wait for it - Manager's Manager (whaaaaat ?!?!?!?!) to expedite my problem.
Sunday evening said M's M rang to say that the broadband would be reconnected on Tuesday, 7 November - and they had discovered that an engineer does not even have to enter my house to do this so that's all good, isn't it.
I find this morning, Monday, 6 November, that the ****** thing is back on

. I have a lot to do on the computer because I have no faith whatsoever that it won't go off in one second's time.
All this is beyond me and I think this switch to BT is the biggest mistake I've made in a long time and this saga is not over.
The things I endure for cricket.

Thank you, Greenfinch.
Have discovered that no BT channels are 'alive' on the television. Why they have connected broadband so I can use the computer but not tv is a complete mystery to me, and I suspect, to BT themselves.
I can feel another endless round of 'phone calls coming on
