Welcome everyone to Garden Wildlife UK. Our new home.
As you may know, our old site, gardenwildlife.co.uk suddenly vanished. To this day we don’t know why. Efforts were made to contact Jeremy but no response has been forthcoming. At a guess, the hosting payment wasn’t made so the site was taken down. This is a real shame as it means everything was lost and we had no way of letting everyone know before it happened or any way of preventing it with offers to take the site over.
Luckily, as several members had come from a previous site closing down, a lot of email addresses were known and gradually Biker, Placido, Jacksparrow and Joomoo managed to get a good number of us back together and on to the temporary Wildlifestuff site. While a fine effort, that forum had certain limitations which we felt would hinder the development of the site. Free boards don’t allow you to make a backup of the database, where all of the members and posts are stored, so if they go under, we go under, and search engines are not so happy at indexing lots of sites with common names from one host so the possibility of attracting new members was limited.
So, the decision was made to make a permanent move to a properly hosted site with a new forum where we had complete control. So here we are at http://gardenwildlifeuk.co.uk.
An enormous effort has been made by the team of Biker, Placido, Jacksparrow, Joomoo and Kev to create this new site and we hope you like it.
Kev and Joomoo are administrators looking after the backend stuff you never see and ensuring that at least one person will always have access to the database to back it up.
Jacksparrow is a moderator, looking after things and making sure it all runs smoothly.
Biker elected to step down from a team role and we thank him enormously for his help.
So, just like the old site, this must cost money, right? Well, yes, but it’s only a relatively small amount and for the time being, the team is covering this. There is no obligation for the members to pay at the moment, but if you would like to contribute to the running of the site, please PM a team member and we can arrange how to do that. In future we may put up a paypal button or periodically ask for small, non-obligatory contributions but that is at least a year away yet
So, it’s all systems go, settle in and let’s get back to that wildlife chat we love so much.
