That wasn't the ending I was hoping for,Nick wrote: Sat Jul 04, 2026 4:43 amMost probably. The prime suspect would be Gladys from next door. Here she is a couple of years ago on the prowl - watch till the end.
I already had a trail camera in its usual position (I maintain several in the garden 24/7) but I put another camera on the ground just prior to me putting the chicken scraps out knowing that the Kites will spot it. The little old lady opposite feeds them regularly so they know the drill! I really don't like to feed them too often myself.PimperneBloke wrote: Sat Jul 18, 2026 2:00 pmIt was lucky you happened to be there with your camera to hand, Nick, AND in two places at once!!
Fabulous footageand super garden tick
Historically the Red Kite was never too fussy with what they ate. It was partly that that accounted for their downfall and near extinction. We view the Gull family as scavengers and ready to eat anything and I think the Kites are an inland version but they are more respectful of human beings.Nick wrote: Sun Jul 19, 2026 5:36 amI already had a trail camera in its usual position (I maintain several in the garden 24/7) but I put another camera on the ground just prior to me putting the chicken scraps out knowing that the Kites will spot it. They eat anything my neighbour puts out including slices of bread and rice pudding. I put a cheese & onion quiche out for the foxes one evening and two Kites spent a long time on the ground scoffing it down but I didn't have a camera rolling at the time.
