Anna's mobile phone started ringing. She picked it up and looked for the caller ID. It was Cara Pace again."Hello Shelly" said Anna drowsily "what's happening?" "Our postcode has won the postcode lottery" she said excitedly "they think we're going to get about 25 grand each" "Well I'm delighted for you" said Anna. "Surely you mean us?" said Cara "I thought you did it too" "Sadly no " said Anna "We packed it up three months ago when money was tight and never restarted". Anna had that sick feeling in the pit of her stomach which you get when an opportunity has slipped through your fingers. The phone went dead and Cara was gone,then Anna turned to Andy and explained what had just been said. Andy recognised it was not a time for remonstration although he'd been unaware that the Postcode Lottery entry had been withdrawn but it had been for the best of reasons. The remainder of the day passed quietly while the sad news sunk in with only the girl's chatter interrupting the low tone. Later that day though Anna's attention returned to the contents of her brown envelope............

Now then, maybe we're coming to the crux of the matter - what's in that brown envelope ?!?!?!

......and this time she was afforded the opportunity to read what it was asking a little more slowly. Ganning Ferbroak were asking if she had any knowledge of a deceased gentleman called Harry Stweed who had been a client of theirs up until the time of his death. They had obtained her name and that of others listed by tracing Harry's family links. Anna's mother had never talked to her about the family up north and they had never contacted her so she sensed there had been a falling out many years ago. Anna's brow furrowed as she read down the list of names stopping only at the names of Cara Way and Lee Keigh as they were both old friends but as far as she knew unrelated. Because she had had no contact with the others for a good many years and had no phone numbers she decided to try and get her mother 's opinion which wouldn't be easy as she was on safari in Africa but there was no harm in trying............

.....and try she did but to no avail so she opted to speak to Ganning Ferbroak the next day before she went to work. The next day dawned early for Anna as she had to get the girls ready for school and a host of smaller jobs before she could find time for her phone call which,although she didn't know yet,held the possibility to change her life forever. As usual it was Andy's job to take the girls to school and by 8.45 he was out the house leaving Anna to make her call in private. She waited until it was past nine and rang the given contact number. After half a dozen rings a female voice answered giving her name as Flo Rentine................

Action at last .

........ PA to Ms. Orften. Suze Orften was a partner in the practice and specialised in Family matters, divorces,Wills etc. Anna's call was put on hold while flo confirmed with Suze who was calling and whether she was happy to take the call. Suze assembled the necessary paperwork and asked for the call to be put through. She asked Anna to confirm her name and address and gave a brief rundown on the story so far with the case. What is amounted to was that Harry Stweed had died intestate with no apparent heirs and it was her job to try and find any heir or heirs before the taxman made a claim for any cash. Anna expressed surprise that she had appeared on the list as she had never heard of Harry and wasn't sure how she could progress the enquiries. Suze explained that Anna was the first to respond to her letters it was too early to say how she stood in respect of Harry's estate but put her mind at rest by telling her that inquiries had shown she was indeed related to Harry albeit distantly. It was agreed a copy of the family tree would be sent to Anna for her perusal while Ganning Ferbroak awaited any other possible responses to the letters from others on the list in the original brown envelope. Anna replaced the phone feeling a little happier when her thoughts were interrupted by..........
