I certainly don't want people to stop showing their pictures. But server space costs money. If everyone attached hundreds of pictures we wouldn't survive. If they're simply uploaded to another site and linked, it costs us nothing. Every forum is like that, even the RSPB one.

One thing you can do if you must attach is to think about how big it really needs to be. I've often removed pictures that were 2-3Mb. That's enormous for a picture. They can easily be half that or less and still be perfectly good. Also, cherry pick the best 2-3 maybe rather than 10-15. I used to upload loads to facebook when I started photography. Now I'm a lot more choosy and pick the best of the best.

I guess the 30-odd I posted from Portland didn't help. Sorry all! I'm not on social media, and don't use any image sharing media (I'm a bit old, and slightly technophobic... plus I don't trust people to keep details secure) so my preferred style of a chronological record of my trips out won't work here. Guess I'll have to do as you suggest Kev, and cherry pick what I post.

EDIT: Got to be honest, I'd never considered the cost implications of server space, so fully appreciate where you're coming from Kev

I tend to use an image host like flickr or imgur. That latter is good because you just drag and drop your picture and it'll even give you the BBcode forum link to copy/paste it in to the board and then it uses no quota and no bandwidth.
I might need a step by step guide on how to do that - the other question is do you get flooded with ads with imgur ?

Happy to do that. I'll have some time over the weekend.

You don't need to sign up to it at all so no ads, no spam etc.
