Loch of the Lowes - the older of the two chicks is bullying its younger sibling. Have seen this before- The first year I started following the Osprey nests, at Loch Garten, the youngest chick, was bullied by the eldest chick. It eventually died. We called it Small Fry because of its size. The bullied chick is older than Small Fry, so maybe it will defend itself. Fingers crossed.

Not sure what is happening at Loch Arkaig. I thought there were three eggs. Female has got up and there was one chick and one egg.

Quick up-date on the three nests.

New Poole Harbour
Three chicks

Loch of the Lowes
Two chicks

Loch Arkaig
One chick and one unhatched egg. Thought there were three eggs but they were difficult to see.

Mystery of Loch Arkaig solved. There were three eggs. One hatched, one didn't hatch and one fell over the side of the nest when an owl caused some mayhem on the nest.
