I have just had a small flock of very noisy Sturklets visit. Their breeding season has been quite long this year.

Has got me thinking. If the food source is plentiful, could that be the reason for two broods. Or were some late in breeding anyway.

I'm beginning to think that the second brood has been more successful than the first. Although I had quite few Sturklets the first time round the current batch are more plentiful and much more noisy. :dogrun:

Think you could be right there jacksparrow. For me as well it has been a very successful season for the starlings.

I thought that the second brood has learned to self feed, and we are past that noise :dj: , but just today I heard the little one screaming at the parents for food and being fed. Its either late second brood or the third? :D

Its so funny to see the early fledglings with starling trademark spotty feathers on their chests already sitting next to the youngest ones who are yelling with their beaks open for food :D

Been keeping an eye on a fledgling starling here. One of the last I would say and fending for itself. May have been abandoned a bit early. Not a strong flyer and probably not savvy enough to push its way in for food. A cat almost got it this afternoon, but it managed to get away. It was down on the path later in the afternoon so had to scare it away. Based on what I am seeing, it chances seem less than 50/50. May be unwell, but hard to tell.

Oh no :( , I hope it survives! They fight all the time but I think they look after each other too, so maybe it will be ok. Sometimes, it just takes few days of good feeding and they get stronger. Lets hope! Please keep us posted Willpar :) . Thankfully I haven't seen any weak/sick youngsters this year.
They all seem to be healthy and strong

Hi butterfly, have noticed that this particular bird is on its own when it is around. Not a member of the pack. Whether it has been rejected if that's what happens I just don't know.
