My first Sturklet of the season today. Just the one and one parent.

Sad to hear butterfly. Unfortunately it is what cats do.

I know, but I can't believe that it sneaked up right behind my back! I'm traumatised from seeing that, and the screams. So depressing

More Sturklets today. Their visit included a visit to the bathing facilities and not a little of their charming calls.

The peace has been broken. Yesterday, one Starling chick. Today, the INVASION. The feeding bill will go up sharply.

Congrats peregrine The feeding bill and noise go up sharply when starling chicks arrive . I think I'm going to go bancrupt . My starlings can all self feed now and the peace should have returned, but it did only partially because they now squabble and fight all the time . They are such sweeties though, just love them

Its really funny to see all the fledglings now mimicking adults, the way they bath, and keep watch, and eat ... they look so important
And they never stop chattering, not screaming or yelling, just chattering for hours, all day! I really try to imagine sometimes what on earth they are talking about so much . They are left with just a couple of babysitters now, all adults are gone for a well deserved break
I've seen it couple of times, a fledgling screaming for food, adult finally coming and feeding it, only for it to go on a feeder afterwards and self feed!
Is that common? It looks to me more like asking for some attention and comfort than food really, since they clearly can self feed

Yes butterfly the young starlings are amusing to watch. Am still getting a fair crowd here. Not seen any bath yet but they do take a drink. There was a dead one up the next street in the car park, could have been a cat or something. Still at my peanut butter, but a jar now is lasting a couple of days. They use it when the other food I put out has gone. But plenty of young this year and doing well.

Maybe not late, maybe a second brood? . They were early this year, earlier than the last year.
