I saw my first fledgling of 2023. A young woodie was plodding around in my back garden.

It turns out that it wasn't a fledgling woodie that I saw. I saw it again today and there was a second one keeping it company. Both were Stock Doves which have similar colouring to Woodies but are slightly smaller and do not have the familiar white collar. They are more a bird of the open fields rather than gardens. I had read elsewhere that sighting in gardens were becoming more common and do it has proved.

The Stock Doves were back again today. This time they came with a couple of ferals. I will try and get a photo.

Fledgling starlings in the garden today. Could fly very well, which leads me to believe have been around for several days. Will bring the cameras in on Monday to see if they were in earlier.

That is a coincidence. I had my first ones for 2023 today. Fledgling Starlings always appear to be very able very soon after leaving the nest. They are still following their parents but seem more able to look for food themselves the blackbirds of the same age.
