I am beginning to the think that Cock Robin is spending more time chasing off Sparrows than feeding his babies.

Bad news for Mr Robin today. He copes well with sparrow sized food stealers but my front garden Blackbird has found out how to get onto the mealworm feeder which is not easy for a bird his size. Despite being buzzed by an angry Robin he steadfastly refuses to budge. Fortunately the warm weather has brought loads of insects out and available to feed young Robs.

Oh dear, bad luck all round. Robin will have to come up with a Cunning Plan ......

The Blackbird has now taken to staking out the feeder to protect "his" mealworms from poachers. But he has an Achilles heel as he is only one bird but there are two Robins. I have noticed he(the Blackbird) is loading his beak and flying off somewhere and during his absences the Robins get busy.

This is the area of my garden where the Robin's nest is sited. The nest is about 4 feet from the ground in the ivy on the left and the feeder is hanging towards the bottom of my Victoria Plum tree on the right. The Robins ducked in to the flowering blackcurrant in the background when they saw me and the camera.

By my timing the nestlings are fairly close to fledging which is(according to the RSPB) 14 days after hatching.

I love that pic, Jacksparrow , it's a perfect location.

Re fledging: haven't seen Bobbin for 2 days. I trust he's introducing his new babies around the neighbourhood ........

Thank you, Nuthatch; delighted to say that at 3.30 this affie Bobbin bounced onto his windowsill . He made a good meal of mealworms (ate the lot) and flew off. Haven't seen him again - yet.

Wouldn't be surprised now if I'm not introduced to his favourite son any day soon .
