I always think that the parents don't seem to have as much hassle as many garden and woodland birds as they leave the nest pretty soon after hatching

Just been watching a juvenile Blackbird taking on a Woodpigeon for the right to be first at the currants we'd put out. The juvenile won!

I've been trying to decide which bird was the parent of the first photo of Kevs. It is a toss up between Coot and Moorhen. I have decided it is a Coot.

My chimney jackdaws have left the nest, phew.
But they are even more noisy outside.
i couldn't tell how many were babies as there was too much scrapping going on. Possibly 3 or 4.
As they flew to the tree, two were having a right old aerial scrap. It looked vicious.

I had five fledgling Blackies turn up today all at the same time. I'm not sure they were siblings but I'm fairly sure 3 were. Due to an oversight on my behalf there was no water in the birdbaths and they all seemed desperate to get a bath. They tried unsuccessfully to rest on the water lily leaves which always gives me the heeby-jeebies as the last thing I want is drowned birds polluting the ponds.

We have a very mad weekend with two young magpies falling from the nest. To young to fly or feed their self and with the cats getting them. I had no choice but to take them to the local wild bird hospital. Both are now on antibiotics and being fed and both will be fine.

I think this is a young reed bunting.

My first thought when I saw it was a fledgling Greenfinch. That beak looks too heavy duty for a Reed Bunting and there are hints of green around the rump area.

I say reed bunting cos there was an adult in the same tree, next branch along.
