Frosty morning, Rexit ready for brekkers. Down he came straight into the ground cage and was followed a heartbeat later by his chosen lady friend . She didn't stay long but for 5 seconds it was a privilege to stand within 3 ft of 2 robins.

(I'm a little bit concerned about this affair: he's a good, steady lad and this little minx is a bit flighty in my opinion. I hope he knows what he's getting into ....... )

I have a robin coming in most morning now. Strange thing is it prefers suet pellets to the live mealworms I put out in the dish. It can see them but has never ate any that I have seen. Quite odd I thought as mealworms are suppose to be a magnet for robins.

Mine also prefers suet pellets above everything else, Willpar. I throw him a little bit and he comes down and gets it - seems quite pleased to be singled out from the ravening horde !

I am wondering if the Robin's preference for suet pellets is something to do with the cold weather. The suet is more nourishing than a mealworm

Yes, I agree, Jacksparrow.
Over the years, mine have preferred mealworms during the nestling period when they take mealies back to the nest in handcarts !

Don't see them during the nesting season in my garden.

Today was A First !! Rexit came to the little patio wall, threw him a suet pellet and down he came. We played the game for a moment and then !!!! she flew down so I threw her a pellet. Without a moment's hesitation Raquel came down and retrieved it .
I just knew we're going to have trouble with this one ; bit fast and pushy.

Aaaanyway, extremely unusual to have a female robin willing to get close and personal prior to the frantic "feed the babies at all costs" phase which is a way off yet.
