Carrion crows.

I had an unusual incident in the garden yesterday. I've got a feeder with sunflower hearts that gets frequented by the usual house sparrows, goldfinches, blue tits etc. There is usually two or three wood plgeons on the ground underneath hoovering up the bits dropped by the song birds. Nothing unusual there, but yesterday afternoon I heard a commotion and looked out to see a carrion crow attached to the wing of one of the woodies and having a right old go at him! The pigeon managed to break free and escape minus half of the feathers from one wing. The crow then pecked away at the pile of feathers for a few minutes before taking off! I didn't know that crows were attackers, he couldn't be hungry because we get loads of roadkill around us. Anyone seen crows attacking woodies before?

The name Carrion Crows suggests how they get their food. I don't get Crows but Jackdaws all the time but I've never seen any aggro with the Woodies.
