Poole Harbour

Feeding time just over. Fourth egg must have hatched as there are four chicks, Three strong and healthy but the fourth is small and can't get to the front to be fed. Unfortunately it won't survive.

Copy/Paste from last night's Birds of Poole Harbour post:

In other exciting news, the fourth and final Osprey chick has hatched on the Carey nest in the early hours of this morning! It’s fantastic to see the whole family doing well, and CJ7 and 022 carefully distributing the fish to ensure every chick is well-fed.

The Osprey nest with two females and a male made the six o'clock news on the BBC. They suggested the male has left the females to fend for themselves.

Another feed at Poole Harboour. Chicks 1, 2 and 3 in a line at the front of the queue. Chick 4 at the back and can't get through to get fed. Nothing to eat this time. Thought I saw a bit of bullying earlier (chick1 on chick 4) but I am not sure. Not sure what chick 4 will be like at the next feed.

Poole Harbour chicks are at that 'dinosaur' stage.

Seen on the BBC local news that an osprey has taken an interest in a nest located in the Tamar valley near Plymouth. Three nest were erected last year. Along the valley by a farmer who owns the land.

Another feeding time over at Poole Harbour. Chick Four is getting some food but I am not sure how much. It looks healthy enough but small. Still a concern.

Only one egg at Loch of the Lowes. This is a young pair, probably their first season. There were two eggs but one got damaged when a fish was being brought in. Damaged egg was eventually rolled out of the nest.

They will learn, hope the egg hatches and they take care of the young.

Loch of the Lowes

No birds, no eggs. What has happened?
