Your Garden Hedgehogs
Re: Your Garden Hedgehogs
Went along there with doggy tonight, always go that way. Just the one hoglet . Went up with some food later and had a good look round, and the hoglet was still there, albeit I little farther along and under the bushes. Put down a mix of high protein food for quick weight gain in a few places. No doubt the others will find it if they are around. No sign of mum so I suspect they are on their own now. But seeing them at night is a good sign. A daylight showing could be a different story.
Re: Your Garden Hedgehogs
Took little hoglets food up again last night. Was there roughly in the same place, so put some food down by its nose. Put some more down in a couple of different places. Again no sign of the other two. I have a feeling that the one I am now seeing is the runt of the litter. Will take the digital scales up tonight to weigh it. On checking this morning on doggy walk, was only a few crumbs of food left, so that is a good sign.
Coming back from last doggy walk last night, seen a hedgehog crossing the road to get to the café in my garden. Had my mark on it, as I seen it in the garden.

Re: Your Garden Hedgehogs
Does the hoglet count in your marking system, Willpar ?? Pity the other 2 aren't around.
Re: Your Garden Hedgehogs
Yes it would do placi, but to be honest marking it never entered my head. Was to much taken up by seeing babies and how exciting it was just to see them. But then having said that the ones I have marked were ones on my garden. The bit of hedge along the road happens to be part of someones garden. But is only a narrow strip.

Omg
The first - medium size - was coming across the grass to the border from the small bird bath.
No sooner had I seen that one than two appeared from the undergrowth over by the fir tree. One was large, the other medium. They were nosing each other round and round by the egg yolk dish for a minute or so. One gave up (I couldn't determine which one) and crossed the grass to the poultry feeder, whilst the other ate the egg
I think the reason I missed which one it was, was because this head appeared by the ground table under the hanging sunflower heart feeder - it was the ginger cat, who sat there with its head in the air twitching about.
It crossed the grass and went where the first hedgehog was, whilst the second hedgie sniffed about by the poultry feeder.
The one at the egg dish disappeared back into the undergrowth there or roundabouts.
About an hour and a half later I went out to assess the food situation for the birds and I heard a rustling in the hedge near the small bird bath. A large hedgie appeared and trundled across the grass but stopped when it became aware of my presence. It then went to the border under the bird feeders. I don't know if it was the earlier large one
The fat block was still there this morning but it had long grooves in it.

Well spotted nuthatch. Your garden seems to be ideal for prickly friends.
Went across to put food down for the hoglets, armed with torch and scales, and low and behold not a sausage. Put the food down for them as they may show up later.
